Scarecrow-a-day #16 – Conduit Scarecrows, My Favorites!

More Pioneer Days pictures tomorrow. For today..

These scarecrow have a support system made from the metal tubing that your electrical wires go through. Mike called it thin-walled conduit. They were quite the project for us to build – and wow did they look good in our yard.

To Mum Or Not To Mum

Autumn is such a lovely time of year! Mike and I seriously look forward to it. We even chose to get married in the Fall so we could honeymoon in Door County during the color change.

And we like mums. Not like we like Dahlias, but they are a nice seasonal plant. We even planted some that were plucked from a Door County garden in the Fall hoping that they would come back in the Spring. We had some success with those. We had very little success with buying mums from the store in Fall and having them return. That just doesn’t happen for me in our zone 5. If you know some secret , I’m listening.

Mine, of course, look especially nice because Kevin took the pictures.

Not everyone agrees that mums are a good thing. Here’s a fun article that Regine sent me with a different point of view.

“Go stuff it” (Don’s favorite)

“I don’t want my eyes to match”

“I can’t find my legs”

“I want my whole face green”

“You’re sitting on my head”

“Where do I get a face”

“Could you glue my head, please?”

Scarecrow-a-day #10 – Pantyhose

What are pantyhose when they aren’t pantyhose? Why, a scarecrow of course.

I can’t begin to tell you have to make this unique scarecrow, but I sure do like it. We saw it in Door County.

If you are looking for more of the Pioneer Days scarecrows, they’re coming. I’ll get them out there as soon as I can. But for now, its Dancing With The Stars time. Gotta have my priorities!

Scarecrow-a-day #9 – Pioneer Days

Wonderful day! I bet the Garden Club and the crowd made a hundred scarecrows at Elk Grove Pioneer Days today. We were very busy making scarecrow parts and helping people build scarecrows. Mostly we spent our time smiling. What a great family event. More pics to come after I get them cleaned up, but this one was just too cute to wait.
